Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA)
for Meaningful Change

Lasting behavioral change starts with understanding the “why” behind the behavior.
That’s why our Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) provide a comprehensive, evidence-based approach.

We identify the root causes of challenging behaviors in children and adolescents at home, school, or in the community.
Through observation, data collection, and collaboration with caregivers and educators, we create individualized, actionable plans that guide effective, compassionate intervention.

What Is an FBA?

A Functional Behavioral Assessment is a structured process used to:
  • Identify the triggers and functions of specific behaviors
  • Determine what a child is trying to communicate through their behavior
  • Develop targeted interventions that are proactive, not just reactive
FBAs are often the first step in a broader treatment plan and are essential in school and IBHS/ABA settings.

Key Components of Our FBA Process

  • Direct Observations: Conducted in the child’s natural environments, such as classrooms or home settings.

  • Data Analysis: Review of behavioral patterns, frequency, duration, and context.

  • Interviews & Questionnaires: Input from parents, teachers, and caregivers to understand multiple perspectives.

  • Functional Hypothesis Development: Identifying the underlying function of the behavior, such as attention-seeking, avoidance, or sensory needs.

  • Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP): A strategic, individualized plan to replace problematic behaviors with positive alternatives.

Who Should
Receive an FBA?

Children and adolescents who:
  • Exhibit persistent behavioral challenges at home or school
  • Are not responding to traditional behavioral strategies
  • Have diagnoses such as Autism, ADHD, ODD, or other developmental concerns
  • Need individualized supports to succeed in academic or social settings

How Our FBA Process Works

Step 1:
Observe

We begin with structured observations in the child’s natural environments (home, school, community).

Step 2:
Gather Data

We track the behavior, its frequency, triggers, and patterns, using evidence-based tools.

Step 3:
Interview

Parents, teachers, and caregivers share their insights to give us a full picture of the behavior in context.

Step 4:
Analyze & Identify

We determine the function or purpose behind the behavior; what the child tries to communicate or achieve.

Step 5:
Build a Plan

Our team creates a tailored Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) to teach positive, lasting alternatives.
